The report lists the top 15 religious groups, the total number of adherents and churches reported, and the total population as of the 2000 census, based on figures published in the book cited below. Areas marked PMSA are sub-divisions of larger metro areas, as defined by the Office of Management and Budget. Areas marked CMSA are consolidated groupings of PMSA’s, again as defined by the Office of Management and Budget. |

The lists are alphabetical arrangements of the groups or geographic areas. The lists contain selected data from the newly published book as well as rankings for selected categories. The rankings show specific data items arranged in order of size. For religious groups, the largest 25 are shown. For states, the top 10 and the lowest 10 are shown. (When the District of Columbia would rank at the top or bottom, the eleventh state is shown as well.) For metro areas and counties, the largest and smallest 15 are ranked. For metro areas, CMSA’s are used rather than PMSA’s. |
